8:20am Sunday 5th February 2012
A SERVICE which aims to reduce loneliness, isolation and improve wellbeing among older people has started in the Vale and Cardiff.
The service, known as Let’s Get Out, is managed by Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and is part of a larger project known as the Friendly AdvantAGE Project, led by the Vale Council for Voluntary Services (VCVS).
Two co-ordinators have been appointed to carry out this project, both of whom have already worked with Age Concern and have essential experience in this line of work.
Samantha Jenkins will be the Vale co-ordinator, with Debbie Plenty in charge in Cardiff.
The project will run for four years, during which time it aims to help 200 of the most isolated people, building build their confidence and helping them meet new friends.
Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale is currently recruiting volunteers to help with this.
For information on volunteering, or on the AdvantAGE Project as a whole, contact Samantha on 07584 346014 (for the Vale) or Debbie on 029 2068 3687 (Cardiff).
