Dinas FC come close to three wins in a row
7:50am Thursday 18th March 2010

DINAS POWYS 1 AFAN LIDO 1
DESPITE having one or two regulars unavailable, Dinas came within 5 minutes of registering their third straight win against opposition from the top end of the table, in Saturday's Welsh League Division One match.
The game started evenly but it was the visitors who had the first chance, Nathan White connecting with a cross from the left, but his effort was off target.
Lido also had three early corners but the Dinas centre-back pairing of Tony Roberts and Lloyd Davies were in fine form and cleared the danger.
The game was physical at times and the hosts' Jacob Rudman needed treatment after a robust tackle.
Recent signing Barry Pappin was making some good runs down the left and on one occasion threaded a fine through ball into the path of Dunford, but the Lido defence just got to the ball first.
It was White on 20 minutes who latched on to a long clearance from keeper Michael Lewis but again he was off target.
Dinas began to assert some pressure and on two occasions Paul Carro used his pace to put in good crosses, one of which Mark Dunford headed just over.
Dinas finally achieved the breakthrough with four minutes of the half remaining. This time it was Pappin who beat his marker to put in a fine cross from the left for Dunford to head home for the opener, leaving Michael Lewis rooted to the spot.
The half-time entertainment this week was provided by Dinas Wolves U8s with a five-a-side match.
The visitors introduced prolific striker Robbie Walters at the start of the second half and they began to get the upper hand with a succession of corners, but the Dinas defence cleared time after time.
Peter Blaine also had a powerful 30 yard free kick from Scott McCoubrey to deal with but he gathered it comfortably.
Lido were becoming frustrated and after a bad foul on Rudman, White was shown the yellow card as well as defender Damon Thomas for getting involved.
Dinas manager Danny Kinsey then rang the changes, bringing on Karl Steel for Paul Carro and Steve Provis for Dunford.
Further knocks were incurred by Lloyd Davies and Rhodri Foote but they both soldiered on and just as it looked as though Dinas would hang on to the points, Nathan White drove a loose ball into the corner of the net from 16 yards to grab a share of the points.
Dinas saw out the remaining minutes and were probably more pleased with the result than their opponents.
Next game for Dinas is on Friday, March 19 at Bryntirion with a 7.30pm kick off.
