Cogan suffer heaviest defeat of season
7:50am Thursday 2nd February 2012
CWMBACH ROYAL ALLSTARS 5 COGAN CORONATION AFC 1
COGAN'S poor form continued with their second consecutive defeat of 2012 – although the result didn’t give a true reflection of the game.
A combination of refereeing decisions going against Cogan, and an inability to take their chances, led to the heaviest defeat of the season.
The first half saw Cogan dominate possession and they had a number of chances to open the scoring, but the home side remained resilient and with their only real attack of the first half, broke away down the right and scored from a low cross.
The second half started well for the visitors but after a series of decisions which went against them, including a disallowed goal for offside, the game became disjointed.
After a period of pressure Cogan were eventually awarded a penalty when Ben Armun was fouled inside the box. Rhodri Foote scored from the spot kick to make the score 1-1.
The home side scored from a break-away to make it 2-1, and they then brought on their 6ft 4in substitute who, within 5 minutes, had found space in the Cogan box to score with a free header to make it 3-1.
Cogan continued to press forward to get back into the game but conceded two further goals – the fourth an unstoppable shot from 25 yards, and the fifth from a goalkeeping error.
This result has left Cogan in 4th position in the South Wales Senior League, but with games in hand.
Cogan's next fixture is on Saturday, February 4 in the SWFA Cup Round 4 against Perthcelyn United at home. Kick-off is at 2pm.
