7:40am Thursday 16th February 2012
COGAN CORONATION 1 PERTHCELYN 2 (After extra time)
THE 4TH round of the SWFA Cup saw one of the most one-sided games at the Recreation Ground in years end in defeat for Cogan.
The first half was dominated by the home side but they went in at half time a goal down following a penalty conceded through the visitors' only attack of the half.
The second period continued in much the same vein with the visitors hanging on and trying to run the clock down.
Liam Jones was outstanding down the left and created many chances for Nathan Self and Grant Beedell and, but for some fine saves from the visitors' goal keeper and no luck, Cogan should have won the tie comfortably.
Eventually Cogan scored in the last minute. Jones broke down the left and crossed the ball which landed at Beedell's feet with his back to goal, but he managed to turn the ball past the keeper and into the net.
The game went into extra time and Cogan hit the post following good work by Rhodri Foote.
The visitors then broke away and deceived the Cogan defence, converting the chance to make it 1-2.
Despite further chances Cogan were unable to score and lost the tie The match balls were sponsored by Homerite Bathroom Centre.
Cogan are back in action in the league this Saturday when they are away to Llanrumney.
